What a bullshit artist.

If it has not been clear to you before, it should be clear now. The MAGA crowd are simply neo-Confederates trying to tear the Federal Government down from the Inside.

We stopped this awful ideology before. We need to stop it again.

Nice Job reporting, Joe!

Roy, Biggs, and Perry are the big complainers. Two out of the three of them were involved in the January 6 happenings in some way. We can only hope most of the bulbs in the Republican House will light up and realize this is a bipartisan compromise. And the grumblers from the fringe on the Dem side will hopefully see the wisdom in voting for this bill.

The Freedom Caucus is like a bunch of old, incontinent toy poodles, always yapping and peeing. Drama queens with zero credibility.

Reps. Roy and Biggs among others of the Feckle Cackle Caucus provide a robust wealth of material that should inspire comedians far into our future.

First, Andy Biggs and Scott Perry should be in jail for their part in Jan 6. McCarthy now has to be speaker of the house. Biden has allowed him to save face and he has saved republicans from having to vote for that abomination they started with which McCarthy promised would never become law. Pretty soon republicans will find the "work" requirements cost far more to enforce than they save. One wonders how many times they have to do nonsense like this to learn.

Don’t disagree, but in my view, there’s nothing so bad in the deal on the right or left that would justify blowing up the US economy, and possibly worse.

The IRS reduction may wind up as meaningless. From the NYT:

“Still, because of the leeway that the I.R.S. has over how and when it spends the money, the clawback might not affect the agency’s plans in the next few years. Officials said in a background call with reporters that they expected no disruptions whatsoever from the loss of that money in the short term.

“That’s likely because all of the $80 billion from the 2022 law was appropriated at once, but the agency planned to spend it over eight years. Officials suggested the I.R.S. might simply pull forward some of the money earmarked for later years, then return to Congress later to ask for more money.”

Great column. I’ve thought that this budget deal is better for Dems than they seem to think. All I heard this morning on RW media was how “brilliant” McCarthy was. That left me scratching my head.

"The House’s far-right Republicans will do everything in their power to jam this legislative mechanism, but they are unlikely to have enough power to do so. A key indicator is that Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), one of the conservatives on the Rules Committee, is leaning toward supporting the deal"

It is important to note that it isn't just the hardcore MAGA Right jeopardizing the agreement. Rep Jayapal, as chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus has already said that a number of her Caucus members don't like the deal and are seriously considering voting *against* the compromise.

-----

“Would they support a deal that includes bad permitting policies? Would they support a deal that includes work requirements on social safety net programs? And would they support a deal that includes harmful spending cuts,” Jayapal recalled. “And an overwhelming majority of our members said that they would not be able to support a deal that included those things.” https://thehill.com/business/4026747-jayapal-says-debt-ceiling-deal-could-mean-harmful-impacts-for-poor-people/

""While voting to increase the debt ceiling is a necessary step, the deficit-reduction measures included in this deal will further harm our economy and hurt working Americans. With unemployment still above 9% and stagnating economic growth, taking money out of the economy will only place a heavier burden on working families.

This is the wrong approach for our economy at the wrong time, and it goes against our basic values. For that reason, we and many of our members will be voting no."" https://progressives.house.gov/press-releases?ID=9BD0A3FC-45DA-45A3-8FE1-EFB141542D0C

The deal ain't done yet folks, and the extremists in the House - both R and D - might join and sink the bill. Hold onto your hats, it's going to be a rough ride.

Q: How do you kill a room full of socialists?

A: Tell them that there are far left members of the Democratic caucus. They’ll die laughing.

“We’ve asked for Janet Yellen’s figures and with all due respect she comes with zero credibility to this discussion.”--Scott Perry

I dunno. As between a Secretary of the Treasury and former Fed chair vs. a guy who tried to get Trump to appoint Jeffrey Clark as AG, I don’t think credibility is favorable terrain for the congressman to fight on.

It sounds as if the Freedom Caucus arsonists aren't upset so much with the deal as they are with the perception of them looking weaker than the image they want to project. They can raise all the stink they want, but if it gets passed they're going to have to either eat crow, get in line, or actually get medieval on Kevin's ass as they've threatened. Margie is their chief bomb thrower and she's already said she's in favor of the deal. so anyone who goes against her will have to face her mighty wrath. Actually, with all the public tongue baths Kevin gives her, bless her heart, I can't help but wonder if they've got a "Me and Mrs. Jones" thing going on.
