The best piece of advice I ever got about negotiating or going out on strike was: “you’ve gotta know what you have to have to be able to say you won.” McCarthy and his merry band of nihilists seem to have absolutely no idea.
On the Debt Ceiling, the Senate Democrats should put more pressure on McCarthy by passing a one-sentence bill along the lines of, "The Debt Ceiling is increased to (some reasonable number)." and just send it over to the House. If the Senate Republicans want to filibuster that, make them do a real talking filibuster, and get them all on the record in favor of default.
How much longer is Thomas going to get a free pass for blatantly violating Federal laws in his financial statements? Hasn't he "amended" his financials often enough for the world to realize his income reporting is only what he thinks is pertinent, or what he was advised by still unnamed colleagues what wasn't necessary to list? Would he have sent in amended forms if he hadn't been caught? It seems each time he is found out he resubmits.
Enough is enough. Justice (and I use his title loosely) Thomas has shown himself to be not only corrupt, but hypocritical also. He claims he is an Originalist but his views are filtered through his hardcore Catholic upbringing even though only three of the Founding Fathers were Catholic.
IMO, the majority of the American people have had enough of Clarence Thomas - and his wife Ginni too.
I would like to see a story covering the genesis of the relationship between Thomas and Crow. Seems to me Thomas has been played, his ego massaged, managed and manipulated. Another narcissist given power and prestige. Very dangerous.
Another fun fact about Supreme Court justices’ congressional testimony: nearly every year two justices testify before the House Appropriations Committee. While the hearing officially covers the SCOTUS budget request, the Committee questions justices on other matters relevant to the Court. It’s one of the few times Members of Congress can formally question justices. It can get interesting.
I don’t know if the Republican-controlled Committee plans a SCOTUS hearing for this year; if I were in their shoes, I’d skip it because of the Thomas controversies. Thomas has testified in the past.
Regarding the Thomas- Crow affair, to bad we don’t have Welch saying “Have you no sense of decency? At long last have you no sense of decency?” But I guess that won’t work any more.
I would like to see some coverage on why Dick Durbin is honoring objections to District Court judgeships by republicans ? Has he forgotten the way these same republicans handled these 'blue slip' objections? is it possible he believes his doing so will induce similar behavior from them? As Bugs Bunny would say "what a macaroon"
Couldn't name anyone (born in 1991) but I am calling my Dem senators everyday, including the district offices. This is egregious and we need to put some steel in the Dems spines. Additionally, the FedSoc flunkies around Leonard Leo seem to have engaged in a lot of tax fraud: Politico had a great story on Leo, Carrie Severino, Neil Corkery, and The 85 Fund, CRC Advisors, and Marble Freedom Trust. Tax free oligarch donations to a charity, then the charity pays the for-profit arms
Biden and grassley would have voted for clarence. Was Feinstein a senator then? I watched most of thomas’s hearings. They were cringe inducing and riveting.
There is no question in my mind that republicans will default. It is the only means they have to tank Biden's great economy. It isn't much consolation to what this will do to the country and the world for that matter but maybe just maybe America will finally wake up and crush the GOP.
I think the Thomas/Crow scandal is huge and Democrats should do everything in their power to hold him accountable. It probably will come to nothing but that is so wrong. Abe Fortas resigned for so much less than what Thomas has done. Thomas truly acts like he's above the law and it's unacceptable.

Thanks for filling in, Jim. Great job! 👍🏻
Jim this was excellent, thank you very much.
And thx too for the cheerful photo of Chuck and a happy looking Fetterman ❤️

I didn't pick a single name of the Dems that voted for him, though Nunn and Shelby were no surprise when I went and looked it up.
For senators still there, skimming the list I saw Grassley and McConnell.
Damn shame that nothing will get done, but hopefully this will lead to an eventual push for ethical oversight for SCOTUS in some form.

No judge in Wisconsin would remain seated if engaged in Thomas's improprieties. He lacks personal integrity.
